Ready Set Go

So I have officially started my training. Today was day one and a good day it was. I was the very last person back to the meeting point after the run, but I don't really care. Someone has to be in last, and who better than me to be at the back?  My training will help. I will need to work out 4 times a week and of course I can only get better. I will probably always be at the back but that's ok. It's not about time or who's in front or behind, it's about crossing the finish line after training for 21.1 kms and doing something for myself this year. And most importantly not quitting!! I always quit stuff. I join a program or a project and I never finish. So this year is about me. On my way home today I was feeling so pumped I stopped and got my nose pierced. Looking all gross and sticky in my running clothes, I closed my eyes and said "do it before I change my mind". And then... "ouch!". Done, just like that. Another thing on my list. Maybe next week I will get another tatoo. Maybe. So here I go, all pumped and excited to embark on my new life. I feel like I'm 20 again.

Oh and for those who get this, I GOT A MEDAL TODAY!! Woo Hoo.

Win and Lose

So my purpose of this blog is to track my progress and journey of life as I train for my 1/2 marathon. I am finding I am sore more often than not and I haven't even been trying that hard yet. Official training with my coach doesn't start until February 12th and I just wanted a head start, so I have been running a bit on my own. By running I mean waddling on the treadmill at the gym for 5 minutes of running then a minute of walking. I can only do this a few times before I am dripping in sweat and I feel like I can't go any further. I am excited to be training with a group twice a week shortly, because I feel I will be able to push myself farther with other people. For example. I was at a fitness show a few weeks ago and I was all of a sudden able to do 10 girl pushups in a row with people around watching. At home, 3. What is this all about? I don't get it. How come we can't push ourselves enough? The good thing is, yesturday, Friday, was my rest day and I am itching to go to the gym later today. Even if it's only for my 20 minutes of probably hilarious entertainment for others at the gym. I just find myself feeling so much better when I go.

That's only half my battle right now. Food is the other half. With working out, I find I want to eat more. The bad thing. I know what I should eat but instead I reach for junk. That's what I have done the past few years. That's the reason I have gained 20 pounds over the last year of my life. yuk. This needs to change. It's just a battle. Anyone who has ever tried to lose weight knows how I feel. I find myself picking up things in the last aisle at the grocerie store. And not a small bag, a big one. I swear this time there was only one option, there was no small. Then I end up eating it all. It's crazy. Anywho. No one said a healthy life change would be easy.

Lastly, the reason for me doing this 1/2 marathon is to raise money. Anyone that has fundraising ideas for me, let me know. And don't forget every dollar is needed. I would love if I could get all my friends and family to each donate 10 dollars. That's it. More if you like of course but at least 10. Anything over 10 you get a tax receipt and you make me that much closer to my goal of 3500.00. Please go to tinyurl.com/survivorgirl and donate. Please and thank you for your support.

Gonna Do It!!

So as many of you know I have decided to track my progress on this journey of training for a 1/2 marathon. That is 21.1 kms for you who didn't know, or didn't care, till now of course.  I have to make it work! For some reason this is such a big deal to me. I feel like I have something to prove. I don't think I have actually finished anything in my life. I decide I want to start a new hobby and I end up quitting before the classes for it are even over and start something new. Well, training hasn't even officially started and I have worked out 3 times this week. That's a good start. And yikes am I sore already.

I'm doing this for many reasons, most importantly, this race is to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I guess there is one thing in life I have completed, Lymphoma. I am a survivor and I want to make a difference for others.

I'm trying to get my sisters to join me in this adventure and train for this awesome race. I think they don't want to cause they are worried I will just quit on them, like everything else. The truth hurts. Maybe it's because I am a busy body and can't sit still, just like my 3 and 1/2 year old. I don't really know why I'm like that. I lose interest? I don't know. I'm not like that at a job. I put my heart and soul into a job, just anything for me I seem to slack on.

Well, I am going to do this. For me of course. But also to show I have grown up and matured into a wonderful young lady. A survivor, a mother, a friend, a sister and a daughter. I am going to do this for many reasons. No quitting! Not an option this time. If someone has to drag me across that finish line so be it!

I'm Gonna Do It!!!

My crazy life

Here I am, evaluating my life, and I have decided to run a 1/2 marathon. Crazy I know. Who beats cancer, gets separated, gets a new job, buys a house and decides to run a 1/2 marathon? Well, me. I beat Hodkins lymphoma and have decided 2011 is going to be a selfish year. All about me. With exceptions of course. I want to get healthy, make a difference in life. So I am going to start training with the Leukemia and Lyphoma Society of Canada - Team in Training - to raise funds for research and patient services. Did I mention, I am also going to raise enough to run this event in San Diego. I have 4 1/2 months to train and make this happen. I need to raise $3000.00 to do this so please keep me in your new year budgets. Every little bit helps.
